  20. I followed the thread on America Online (AOL) too.  I don't believe
  21. this statement was made by Allen Hastings.  He's much smarter than
  22. that, and he's not on AOL as far as I know.

  24. I didn't figure out AOL's transcript logging until the day after I
  25. read the start of that thread, so I can't check right now.  The
  26. comment might have been made by Lee Stranahan, who makes his living
  27. as a LightWave and Toaster fanatic, but is not part of NewTek.

  29. And I don't recall seeing any people from ILM on AOL...  among others,
  30. more disagreements came from the Electric Image people.  Later, that
  31. thread exposed that there were all sorts of other FAXed and emailed
  32. flames flying between those Toasterheads and the Electric Image
  33. people, most of which had to do with who was using who's product to
  34. do what, and who would therefore be able to reap the PR benefits.

  36. The "Making Of JP" book does show Toasters in offices, but they were
  37. probably for early motion studies or prototype renderings.

  39. Could LightWave make dinos like JP's?  That's not a sensible
  40. question.  It was a silly statement, no matter who made it.

  42. I'm sure an infinite number of monkeys using POV could make even
  43. *better* dinosaurs, given enough time and money.  In the real world,
  44. time and money are at a premium, and even ILM can't afford to buy an
  45. infinite number of dino-making-machines.  If someone wants to use a
  46. Toaster because they can't afford Softimage, great.  And if you're
  47. reading this list, you probably can't afford it, either.

  49. Cheap machines do make more employees possible.  You think the
  50. Toaster drivers at seaQuest, Babylon V, etc. are making as much money
  51. as a skilled Softimage operator?
